Which Skin Type are you? There is a Smart Spray Tan right for you!
Human skin color is primarily due to the presence of melanin in the skin. Skin color ranges from almost black to white with a pinkish tinge due to blood vessels underneath. Variation in natural skin color is mainly due to genetics. The natural skin color can be darkened as a result of tanning due to exposure to sunlight. The reason why the skin may get darker after being exposed to sunlight is because of the body produces more melanin in order to protect against the UV radiation. However due to the harmful effects of prolonged UV radiation, it is not recommended that you seek a tan in this manner.
So when applying a spray tan, the recommended color of tan applied will vary from person to person according to their natural skin type. The six skin types are listed below in order of increasing darkness together with the recommended spray tan color:
Skin Type I:
Very light or white
People with this type of skin normally have freckles and very light or reddish hair. This skin is very prone to burning when exposed to even moderate amounts of UV radiation. Covering up and wearing SPF30+ is mandatory for people with this skin type if they want to minimize any damage to their skin from UV radiation.
Spray tan or self-tanner color recommendation: use the lightest available spray tan under all circumstances. If you try and apply a darker spray tan color you may see unexpected results such as an orange tinge. New Gorgeous Sunless "Carribbean Cocktail -- 2" is perfect for this skin type.

Skin Type II: Light or light-skinned European.
People with this skin type are also prone to getting sunburnt quite easily although they will tan much more readily than the skin type I people. This skin type usually has less freckles than skin type I and the natural hair color can range from light brown to blonde and red. Spray tan color recommendation: stick with a light color spray tan or self-tanner lotion under most circumstances. If you appear to have a slightly darker natural tan, then you may try a medium spray tan. New Gorgeous Sunless "Caribbean Cocktail --2" aka light is the one for you, or "dark Caribbean Cocktail --2.5" aka light or light medium may be mixed for you
type 2- go for light or light medium
Skin Type III: Light intermediate or dark-skinned European.
This skin type can tan easily when exposed to sunlight and appears to not burn as readily as skin types I and II. People with this type of skin usually have dark hair and
brown eyes although that is not always the case. It is very important to not be complacent if you have such a skin type and make sure that you apply SPF30+ and
cover up when in the sun for long periods.
Spray tan recommendation: Depending on how dark the person wants to look, most shades of spray tan color can be applied to this skin type with little chance of orange dis-coloration. I would recommend Natural Glow "Caribbean Cocktail -- 2" aka light if going for a light tan, if medium is the goal then I would use New Gorgeous' "Brazilian Blend -- 3"aka medium. For a darker look, I would mix up "dark Brazilian Blend -- 3.5" aka medium dark.
Skin Type IV: Dark intermediate.
This skin type will respond to large amounts of sunlight by producing quite a dark tan. Even though this skin type will not burn as easily as the previous skin types it is still very important to make sure to apply SPF30+ and cover up when in the sun for long periods. Remember that all skin types are still susceptible to damage by UV radiation.
Spray tan color recommendation: Depending on how dark you want to look, any shade of spray tan or self-tanner lotion color can be applied to you with no chance of orange dis-coloration. I would recommend New Gorgeous' "Brazilian Blend --3" aka medium, "dark Brazilian Blend -- 3.5" aka medium dark , "BB1 --4 " aka dark or as dark as "dark BB1 -- 4.5" here.
Skin Type V: Dark or brown type.
Even though it is already a dark shade, this type of skin can darken even further when exposed to prolonged periods of sunlight. If you have this type of skin you will find that you will not burn as easily as all of the above skin types, but it is still important to make sure that you apply SPF30+ and cover up when in the sun for long
periods.
Spray tan color recommendation: If you want to get a spray tan to enhance your skin tone, I would go for Natural Glow's "Competition Colour --5" here, for medium/dark skin types.
Skin Type VI: Very dark or black type.
This type of skin is least likely to burn in moderate sun exposure but ALL SKIN TYPES ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO UV RADIATION DAMAGE. So make sure that you apply SPF30+ and cover up when in the sun for long periods.
Spray tan recommendation: If you want to get a spray tan to enhance your skin tone and even out certain parts where there may be some natural discoloration, the darkest spray tan color would be used in most cases. Natural Glow makes "Expresso --6" it's darkest solution, with no red undertones.
